Exploring Nature’s Gem – Kanching Eco Forest Park

The Benefits of Nature

In a world continuously shaped by urbanisation and technology, let’s not forget or compromise our connection to nature. As architect Frank Lloyd Wright once said, “Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you.”

Nature has a profound impact on our well-being, as supported by research and positive psychology. Here are some of the benefits of connecting with nature:

Emotion Regulation and Improved Memory

  • Spending time in nature helps regulate emotions and enhances memory functions.
  • Nature walks can benefit individuals to clear their minds.

Stress Reduction

  • Being outdoors reduces stress by lowering the stress hormone cortisol.
  • Forest bathing (known as Shinrin-yoku) emerged in Japan in the 1980s as a way to encourage people to reconnect with forests. It is a practice that invites you to immerse yourself in nature using all your senses. Forest bathing involves a slow deliberate walk in a natural environment, where you play close attention to your surroundings using your senses – sight, smell, hearing and touch.

Attention and Focus

  • Outdoor activities, including nature walks, build attention and focus.

Physical Well-Being

  • Exposure to nature contributes to physical well-being by reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and stress hormone production.

Kanching Eco Forest Park - The Benefits of Nature

Kanching Eco Forest Park

With so many positive benefits related to nature, I was looking forward to visiting the Kanching Eco Forest Park. Nestled between Rawang and Kuala Lumpur, the Kanching Eco Forest Park (Taman Eko Rimba Kanching) awaits those seeking a tranquil escape from the city bustle.

Seven Majestic Waterfalls: Imagine standing amidst lush greenery, surrounded by the soothing sound of cascading water. Kanching boasts seven tiers of waterfalls, each more enchanting than the last. It is apparently the park with the most waterfalls in Selangor with varying heights and landscapes. From the lower levels accessible via concrete steps to the challenging ascent to the highest tier, this natural wonder promises an adventure for all. It was easy to reach the first waterfall as there are clear pathways and even railings. We did not climb to the highest tier as it was steeper and you will have to be more careful as there are no clear pathways. For those with knee problems, it is best not to overstrain yourself! It is recommended to come earlier to avoid the crowds and it is also much cooler.

Picnics, Swimming, and Jungle Trekking: Pack your picnic basket and bask in the serene ambience with your family and friends! It was fun exploring the area with a group of like-minded people and we also had fun discussions with each other during our visit there. Dip your toes in crystal-clear pools, explore well-worn footpaths, and discover the hidden corners of Kanching. For those who love art, it also provides a perfect opportunity to sketch in nature.

If you wish to have lunch in Rawang after the hike, you can try and visit the Rawang Beansprouts Chicken Rice shop which is well-known amongst locals!

Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a waterfall seeker, or simply yearning for a peaceful day out, Kanching Eco Forest Park welcomes you with open arms.

This website also provides a great overview of the seven waterfalls.
